MINUTES OF JUNE 17TH MEETING OF WCW The Board met for dinner at the OABC¹ Chinese Restaurant where a short business meeting took place before the 7 o¹clock regular meeting next door at WoodCraft. Scott reported briefly on the successful collaborative show at the Falkirk Cultural Center in San Rafael. Some 22 pieces from WCW members are included in the show, which goes into August. The OOpening¹ turnout was ³The biggest ever for an art opening" according to their Director. In reviewing dates for upcoming meetings it was decided to cancel that for August in favor of a scheduled Odemo¹ meeting at the Falkirk on the 17th. The July meeting will be on the third Tuesday [15th] at WoodCraft. Judy Dittmer will DEMO August 16th at a venue to be announced. Discussion ensued concerning the annual ³Pot Luck² picnic meeting, Dennis Lasher suggesting either September or October. It was pointed out that WoodCraft has scheduled an Open House for the weekend after Labor Day, so it looks as though ours will be in October. A possible ³Tools Swap² was mentioned. Scott mentioned a possible Bob Rosen DEMO in November, and said that David Ellsworth is now definite for next March. Geoff announced a balance of some $3200 in the treasury, after paying out a larger than usual fee to Graeme Priddle for his visit. Problem was that a smaller than usual group attended. This prompted a short discussion of Othe problem¹. Some thought that we have simply been offering too many shows, others thought that it may have been that Graeme¹s subject [surface decoration] was not that popular, or that the dreaded Oweek day¹ positioning was at fault. The general meeting at WoodCraft began at seven, with President Bob Nelson calling the large group Oto order¹. A particularly large ³Show And Tell² had collected at the back of the room but no sign-in list had been generated. Lacking this reference your Secretary is in trouble for names of creators, but will at least try to detail some of the items shown. Quibell had brought several items developed in collaboration with fiber artist, Barbara Shapiro of the Baulines Craft Guild. Julian Shaw had a teaching point with a "1Z4³ spindle he had developed for making ²3Z4" finals for applying to a Oheavy marble-topped table¹. He¹d used this ³1/4² piece as a template for the others, to ensure absolute uniformity. |
