Program Update, April 2008

These last couple months have been quite active with planning demonstrations and events for our club and it has been difficult for me to keep up with reporting the ongoing news to the group. Tuesday’s board meeting (3/25) was a focused opportunity to layout all the planning I’ve been working on for us. Our board has a lot to consider and has been supportive of the aggressive approach to scheduling demonstrations and activities. We have tentative plans extending well into 2009!

I have enjoyed communicating, meeting and planning projects with my fellow collaborators from the Baulines Crafts Guild. It has been energizing to work with craftsmen from other disciplines and enlightening to learn how other media can enhance and improve what I create on the lathe. I’m really looking forward to the resulting exhibition - Parlor of Earthly Delights - which will open June 13th at the Falkirk Cultural Center in San Rafael. Keep an eye on our web site and your inbox for entry information and notifications. Helping produce a show like this is a big step forward for our club and it is a great opportunity for our members to share their work with a wider audience.

The next demonstration day will be Friday May 16th – Graeme Priddle. Another all day opportunity to learn from a master woodturner. Location and other specific details will be announced soon.

We are still in need of volunteers to present demonstrations at our monthly meetings. We are not looking for experts, just enthusiast people who’d like to share what they’ve been learning. Thank you to Peter Polt for his presentation on design at our February gathering.

Dates for your calendar:

May 16th – Graeme Priddle

August 16th – Judy Ditmer

November – Robert Rosand. Second week, probably mid week. I’ll see what I can work out.

January ’09 – Betty Scarpino. Apparently will be in town around the second weekend. I’ll get info to be considered.

March 17th, ’09 – David Ellsworth

Sep – Oct ’09 – Todd Hoyer & Haley Smith. Details as yet to come. Board will consider.

Falkirk Cultural Center - “Parlor of Earthly Delights”

June 13th – August 30th (closing date is soft until Baulines clarifies their abilities to show through Aug.)

Member Demo day at Falkirk August 16th (This would coincide with the Food and Wine Fest taking place @ Falkirk) This is as yet a tentative date too.

Member’s submission deadline May 1st. Entry forms to come soon!
